4th Grade Historians

Indian Springs 4th graders celebrated Constitution Day on September 17th. We are proud to be Americans! Look for the photo below in the "In View" feature of the newspaper soon.

Fourth Graders also enjoyed Pioneer Day 2009 on Friday, September 25th. Rocky Mount historians, Robert and Evelyn, gave us lots of information about pioneer medicine. We played pioneer games and made pioneer crafts. Thanks to our homeroom moms who contributed to the success of the day!

Look at these pioneers: Parker Mumpower, Rachel Lancaster, Reagan Lancaster, and Tanner Arnold.

Time to Link Up at Food City!!

Food City is kicking off a new program called School Bucks. Through this program, Food City will be donating $600,000 to area schools, and you can help Indian Springs earn a portion of the money! School Bucks replaces the former Apples for the Students program.

For every $10 of Food City exclusive brand purchases you make in a single shopping trip, Indian Springs Elementary will receive 1 point towards our School Bucks reward. The amount of money awarded to each school will be based on the percentage of total purchases of participating items by custumers. It’s like a pie – the size of our school’s slice depends on how much our supporters shop. All in all, Food City will be donating $600,000. The more you shop at Food City, the bigger our portion of the $600,000 will be!! Invite your friends, neighbors, and extended family to link their cards to Indian Springs as well! Let's get our whole network hooked up.

In order to qualify, your $10 purchases must be in Food City exclusive brands. Participating brands include:

Food City

Food Club

Full Circle

Paws

ValuTime

Top Care

Academix

Domestix

Electrix

EasyClix

World Classics

Dining-In

The program starts on Sunday, September 27, 2009, and ends on Saturday, May 1, 2010. Be sure to link your Food City ValuCards to Indian Springs Elementary so that we can start earning free cash!

Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day at Indian Springs was a huge success this year! Many thanks to all of the volunteers who worked very hard to make it happen. Also, thank you to all of those special adults who joined our students for lunch.

Lots of visitors lined the walkway as they waited for each grade level's lunch time.

The cafeteria was full of children enjoying lunch with their visitors!

The wonderful ISE Cafeteria Staff prepared a terrific lunch!

Good Hope Gardens & Landscape, located just down the road at 5237 Highway 126, was kind enough to donate beautiful fall mums as doorprizes for our Grandparents Day visitors.

The Results are In. . .

As you enter the school in the next few weeks take a look at the bulletin board in the front hall. The PTA membership drive results are posted and linked. If you still have not joined the 220 member strong ISE PTA there is still time to do so ... you might just be that missing link!

Congrats goes out to the the following classes and teachers who had the largest PTA membership numbers per grade. All of the winning classes received water bottles donated by All Season Storage. We even had a tie in the kindergarten and 3rd grade classes! Way to go students, teachers, parents, grandparents, and friends!

Big Chance for Box Tops!

Would you like to give Indian Springs a chance to win $50,000? General Mills is sponsoring a contest, and the grand prize is 500,000 Box Tops for Education. That's the equivalent of $50,000 for one very lucky school. Let's try to make Indian Springs that lucky school!!

All you have to do is go to www.thebigclip.com and enter your email address. The winner will be randomly selected on November 1st. Plus, you can enter everyday to give ISES even more chances at winning. Just imagine what our school could do with $50,000!

The First Annual Indian Springs Elementary Open House

When 5:00 finally arrived on Friday, August 7th, the anticipation was over as everyone was able to see who would be their teacher and classmates.
We had a great turn out for our very first ISE OPEN HOUSE.
Many took the opportunity to join the PTA and get thier name in the drawing for a ISE T-shirt!
Spirit items went on sale! The new design was a big hit.
The PTA along with ISBC youth provided a hot dog plate with lots of goodies...drinks, popsicles, popcorn, and . . . WATERMELON!!!!
After the food the students and their families took the time to meet up with old friends and have some fun!
Students and parents were able to check out classrooms and meet with teachers.

Fall 2009 Spirit Items - Unveiled!

We will have the following exciting line-up of spirit items available for sale at the PTA Food & Fun from 5-7pm on Friday, August 7th. We will have a limited inventory on-hand, but we can order what we run out of. Sales will conclude at 7:00pm sharp since we all need to get inside for our Open House orientation meetings. We will be selling the remaining inventory before school on August 10-14th alongside the journals in the library. Again, we will be happy to order for you what we don't have in stock. But if you want your items sooner rather than later, come out to the PTA Food & Fun this Friday from 5-7pm and get them while they're hot!

As you see, we have a completely new design this year to keep things fresh and exciting. Our short-sleeve t-shirt is a fun tie-dye with a distressed gold ISE logo. This shirt is $12.

Our other apparel items are done in a solid maroon with the same distressed gold ISE logo. The long-sleeve t-shirt is also $12 (same price as last year).

Like last year, our sweatshirt is $15.

A NEW item this year is a hoodie sweatshirt. These are $20.

Another NEW item this year is a very handy school calendar magnet. Are you confused by all the new inservice days this year... not sure how you'll keep it all straight?? Well, buy one of these babies for the fridge at home and one for the filing cabinet at work and you'll never be caught off guard! These are only $5 and will be well worth it, we think! We would like to thank our sponsor, Ideal Storage, for sponsoring these magnets so that PTA earns the full $5 on each magnet sold!

If you did not get your ISE car magnet last year, we still have a few in stock. These will also be $5.

Playground TLC

We would like to thank our playground co-chairs, Cindy Buckingham and Toby Lett, for arranging to have our big playground structure pressure-washed this past week in preparation for the new school year. My children played in it last night and pronounced it squeaky-clean!

Due to the lack of a water supply down on the playground, a pressure-washing service that brings its own water was called in. $200 from the PTA playground budget was spent on this cleaning. These are your PTA dollars at work to keep things nice for your kids!

Raised Bed #2 is Finished!

Sara Manis installed our new raised bed in the landscaped area in front of the school this week. This was one of the special projects approved at the May 09 PTA meeting. The new bed provides another island of color and interest in our pea gravel hardscape. It looks very nice with its fresh plants and is ready for the school year! We thank Sara and Fall Creek Landscaping for installing this bed for us.

While she was at it, Sara also freshened up the plants in the first raised bed near the entrance. It looks great!
