Carpool Entrance Improvements!

The Grounds and Facilities committee has been hard at work improving our landscaping at the carpool entrance. Thanks to Mrs. Counts and Mrs. Lancaster and their families, plus Mr. Winchell and other helpers who made it happen! This low-maintenance landscape is consistent with our front entrance and will help keep this area neat and tidy.

The Fifth Grade Legacy project this year ties into the carpool area improvements. The PTA provides a $200 budget each year for the fifth grade class to leave its "legacy" at the school in the form of a lasting improvement. The Class of 2010 chose to provide a seating area at the carpool entrance. This will be useful for parents who are waiting to pick up children, and will also give children a place to sit while waiting on parents.

Funding for all these improvements was provided by the PTA, so thanks also go out to all who support the PTA through Walkathon and other fundraisers!

Civic-Minded 5th Graders

On April 1st, several 5th grade students attended the 4-H Citizenship Short Course at the County offices in Blountville.

Attending were Emma Thurston, Carter Manis, Drew Robinette, Madalin Scott, and Austin Ramsey, seen below with Mayor Steve Godsey.

This event was sponsored by Farm Bureau and the UT Extension Office. Students toured all the county offices in Blountville, learning about and meeting our local government officials. They also met with executives from each office who explained their jobs and some of their duties. The students toured the Court House, went inside a court room, and talked with a local judge. They also visited the 911 Dispatch and a crime investigation room. It was a very educational morning spent learning about our county's government!
