Landscaping Phase I Complete!

We are excited to announce the completion of phase I of our landscaping project! In this phase, we fixed the drainage problems in the front area, put down pea gravel to provide a long-lasting "mulch" in this area, built a raised bed, and moved the Indian Springs School sign to a much more visible location. See for yourself the improvement:

The neat and fresh after picture...

Very soon we will have some flowers and color in the raised bed, which is very prominently placed near the main school entrance and can also be seen from inside the foyer of the school.

We would like to add some more raised beds as funding allows over the next year or two.

Thank you so much to Sara and Dan Manis of Fall Creek Landscaping for implementing this project for us and for donating their time and expertise and some of the materials needed to get us to this point!

Sparkling Science!

Our PTA Cultural Arts program for this year - "Sparkling Science" - was held on Friday. This program focused primarily on electricity and magnetism and was greatly enjoyed by all the students. We are also very pleased that our students were complimented on their excellent behavior by the performers.

Here is the "sparkly" part...

Several lucky students were invited to join the performers on stage to get a more hands-on experience...

One first-grader got his "light-up shoes" lit up in a whole new way!

We thank Marilyn Cotter for making the arrangements for this program, which was paid for using PTA funds - so thank YOU for participating in our fundraisers and making it possible!

Can Tabs Support Ronald McDonald House

Mrs. Calhoun and several of her students went to the Ronald McDonald house on Friday to deliver the can tabs the school has been saving all year. As you can see from the photo, it was a full wagon-load! Thanks to all who sent in can tabs this year to support Ronald McDonald house!

A gathering of parents, classmates, brothers, sisters, teacher, and principal cheered the team!

The purpose of the Clover Bowl is to acquaint 4-H members with themselves and their surroundings through participating in an enjoyable and educational program. In addition to this main purpose, it is hoped that this program will help participants to develop their leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.

CONGRATULATIONS, ISES CLOVER BOWL TEAM!!

Testing the Defenses

Did you know that a few weeks ago, there was an "intruder" test at Indian Springs and at several other Sullivan County schools? During this test, a plain clothes policeman entered the school to see if the systems in place to deal with an intruder would be effective. Ms. Nave was the only one who knew that the man was actually a police officer. When the officer entered the building and bypassed the office, he was immediately detained by Officer Bobby Holt. This illustrates very clearly what a valuable safety service Mr. Holt does for our school each day on a volunteer basis - please take a moment to thank him for his dedication! Once Mr. Holt was "in the know", the officer made his way down to the 4th/5th grade hall. A student coming out of Dr. Moore's 5th grade class saw the man, and his instincts told him something wasn't quite right. He went back inside his classroom and told Dr. Moore that a man was in the hall. Dr. Moore went to investigate, detained the man, and took him to the office. When Constable Jack Almany spoke at the PTA meeting on March 17, he was very complimentary of Indian Springs' staff and student response during the test. He commended of course Mr. Holt for his vigilance as well as the student who was very aware of his surroundings and Dr. Moore who, despite a cold sweat, got the "suspicious character" to the office.
